Rare cen­tury scored by bats­man

For the sec­ond week in a row, a Greer­ton bats­man scored a rare as hen’s teeth Twenty20 cen­tury, fol­low­ing in the foot­steps of Greer­ton mas­ter blaster Brett Hamp­ton the pre­vi­ous Satur­day.

Greer­ton Sikh XI, Lovely Sandhu, blasted 110 runs against Tau­ranga Boys Col­lege in the open­ing round of the WBOPCA T20 com­pe­ti­tion, on Satur­day (13 Oc­to­ber 2018). The pool two en­counter, saw the Greer­ton In­dian side post 165/6 and then go on to vic­tory when they bowled the Tau­ranga stu­dents out for 97. LS Bhatti fired his usual bul­lets to grab three wick­ets at a cost of just four runs.

The other open­ing pool two match, saw a half cen­tury from Ben Jensen help Cadets to 145/7, in their match-up with Katikati, be­fore re­strict­ing team from the West­ern Bay ex­trem­i­ties to 93 for the loss of six wick­ets.

The first pool one match was a rel­a­tively low scor­ing af­fair, with Aquinas Col­lege post­ing 83/7. Louis Robin­son top scored with 34 runs. Mount Maun­ganui com­fort­ably chased down the tar­get with six wick­ets in hand, with Lo­gan Carr lead­ing the charge with an un­beaten 41.

In an­other early game, where ball dom­i­nated bat, Te Puke de­feated R&A Sangha. The Te Puke sec­ond XI reached 86/6 and then led by Amrit Sandhu who took four wick­ets, re­stricted the op­po­si­tion to 74/8.

Mount Maun­ganui and the Greer­ton Sikh XI, both knuck­led down in the late af­ter­noon dou­ble-head­ers to pick up back to back vic­to­ries.

Greer­ton bat­ted first against Mount Maun­ganui and were bowled out for 78. Nathan Walker was in grand form with the ball tak­ing four bowl­ing scalps at lit­tle cost. Led by a crisp 39 runs from Lo­gan Carr, the Mount cruised to a seven-wicket win.

Lovely Sandhu, con­tin­ued on from his round one ton to blast a quick-fire 80, in his side big to­tal of 188/8 against the Singh CC. The Singh side were in con­tention for much of the en­counter, with their top or­der hit­ting out, but were re­stricted to 148 with seven wick­ets in hand.

Other round two win­ners were R&A Sangha who got past Aquinas Col­lege and Tau­ranga Boys Col­lege who chased down a 90 run tar­get set by Katikati.
