Gate­way stu­dents grad­u­at­ing

Te Puke High School held its Gate­way grad­u­a­tion at The Or­chard Church re­cently.

Stu­dents, par­ents, care­givers, em­ploy­ers and staff were present to ac­knowl­edge the Gate­way and Trades Academy stu­dents’ achieve­ments and cel­e­brate their suc­cesses. The stu­dents spoke briefly about their place­ment, and their fu­ture plans for 2019.

For­mer Gate­way stu­dents Ni­cole Gerke and Jaden Char­ring­ton shared their sto­ries about their Gate­way place­ments and where they are now.

Ni­cole com­pleted her place­ment with Jo Thomp­son at Hair Af­fare and is now en­rolled at Hair to Train in Tau­ranga on their Youth Guar­an­tee Course, com­plet­ing a New Zealand Cer­tifi­cate in Hair­dress­ing Level 3.

Jaden com­pleted his place­ment with BOP Film and is now work­ing there as an in­tern and their youth am­bas­sador. Jaden is also a youth am­bas­sador for Bay­court Theatre.

Top Gate­way stu­dents 2018 Award went to Alazae Davis Peters and Wairua Roberts.

Merit Cer­tifi­cates were awarded to Han­nah Hughes-Outen, Chad Spitz, Ni­cole Gerke, Wairua Roberts, Bwatiku Ton­ganibeia, Nikora Fitzger­ald, Ho­hua Waka, Hoira Wat­son, Jor­dan Mil­som and Alazae Davis Peters.

Top Trades Academy Stu­dent 2018 Award went to Ryan White-Par­sons.

The evening’s cel­e­bra­tions were proof of the ef­fec­tive­ness and im­por­tance of the Gate­way and Trades Academy Pro­grammes for stu­dents, pre­vi­ous stu­dents and their em­ploy­ers, says Gate­way ad­min­is­tra­tor Sarah Healey.

“We work to­gether to gain pos­i­tive out­comes with sev­eral stu­dents re­ceiv­ing ap­pren­tice­ships, full-time em­ploy­ment and oth­ers con­tin­u­ing their ed­u­ca­tion with fur­ther train­ing.”

Em­ploy­ers were ac­knowl­edged and thanked for their as­sis­tance by stu­dents and staff .

“They are vi­tal to the con­tin­ued suc­cess of this pro­gramme pro­vid­ing work­place learn­ing op­por­tu­ni­ties for stu­dents in their cho­sen in­dus­try.”
