Te Puke side a long shot for final berth

-

Last weekend’s Baywide Cup matches were all washed out without a ball being bowled, ending the slim theoretical chances of Mount Maunganui, Central Indians and Tauranga Boys’ College of making the December 15 final.

Eves Realty Greerton, sitting at the top of the standings, are in the box seat and are guaranteed a place in the final to be fought out by the two top qualifiers from roundrobin play.

Greerton will meet either Element IMF Cadets or New World Te Puke who sit in second and third spots respectively, heading into this Saturday’s final qualifying round.

The scenario is Greerton will host the Baywide Cup final, at Pemberton Park, if they beat Tauranga Boys’ College on Saturday. Cadets can take the other final spot, but must topple arch-rivals Mount Maunganui.

New World Te Puke still have a chance to reach the December 15 final, but they have to beat Central Indians at Te Puke Domain on Saturday and rely on Mount Maunganui beating Cadets.

Points table: Greerton 31, Cadets 26, Te Puke 22, Mount Maunganui 15, Central Indians 15, Tauranga Boys College 14, Lake Taupo 3.
