First market a big success

- By PAT SANDERS

The morning of November 30 began very bleakly. It had teemed overnight and was still raining — not a great start to our first Maketu Twilight Market.

But our hopes soared as the weather began to improve from solid cloud mass to hints of blue sky and by 3pm the vendors began arriving to set up their stalls and gazebos, and the hungry crowds followed.

Maketu Market welcomed so many new faces as well as our loyal stall holders to the Village Green, from the delicious food stalls representing many different countries to the interesting craft and bric-a-brac stalls and green and healthy plant and vegetable stalls.

The kapa haka performance by the children from Maketu School was a real highlight of the evening and our thanks and appreciation go to the school and teachers for making this appearance possible.

We were very blessed with the clear skies, as even though it was quite windy, we were spared the severe weather conditions that impacted on so many other outdoor events organised for the weekend.

Thank you to all who participated in making the Twilight Market a most delicious and enjoyable experience for the Maketu community and the surrounding area and we wish you a very merry and safe Christmas.
