Apply for scholarships

-

Local athletes, coaches and officials are being urged to apply for a Baytrust scholarship before Monday, September 30.

The scholarships help Bay of Plenty junior athletes develop their skills by competing internationally and enable coaches or officials to develop new skills that can be delivered back to the community.

Belinda Muller from Sport Bay of Plenty says the scholarships are funded by Baytrust as part of their contribution to Sport Bay of Plenty’s Coachforce programme, and fully support Baytrust’s vision of helping develop strong, vibrant Bay of Plenty communities. “We’re keen to see a good representation from all parts of the Bay of Plenty.”

Past athletes to receive the scholarship include Charlie Bell (canoe slalom), Makaylah Dash (basketball), Glenn Templeton (squash), Amanda Lowry (swimming and wheelchair rugby) and Emma Diprose (Muay Thai Boxing).

The scholarships are open to sports people residing in the region, with a goal to retain coaching and official expertise and sporting talent in the Bay of Plenty.

Athlete scholarship applications are available to any aspiring athlete from the Bay of Plenty, aged 16-23 years, who has achieved national representation at their sport. The coach scholarships are for coaches currently coaching at a recognised and endorsed level by their national or regional sporting organisation or equivalent body.

Officials’ scholarships are available to those refereeing, umpiring or officiating at a recognised and endorsed level by their national or regional sporting organisation or equivalent body.

Applications close 5pm September 30. Visit sportbop.co.nz for details.
