Pa¯ pa¯ moa tail wags in split result CRICKET

Pa¯ pa¯ moa batted first against Craigs Investment Partners Geyser City in their Bay of Plenty Cup match on Saturday in an encounter where the Pa¯ pa¯ moa tail wagged.

The visitors to Smallbone Park in Rotorua were in real trouble with just 127 runs on the board. But the last two batsmen — Reece Shelton (25no) and Ben Goodall (23) — put on a 50-run 10th-wicket partnership to take their side through to a respectable 177.

Geyser bowler Joe O’donoghue was in sizzling form on a wet pitch, taking five wickets for 22 runs. Inclement conditions intervened before the home team could bat, with the two sides splitting the points.

Bayleys Central Indians batted first against Flying Mullet Te Puke, and reached 113 for the loss of six wickets when the game ground to a final halt in the 22nd over.

Top honours went to Nandeera Nawela (39) and Ben Sandford (30), with Christian Macdonald, Tasman Carsons and Cameron Riley each taking two wickets.

This Saturday Te Puke are at home to Geyser City and Pa¯ pa¯ moa are away at Greerton, play starting at noon.

In spite of the weekend’s wet weather, a number of Western Bay of Plenty Cricket Association (WBOPCA) Reserve and B Grade games produced a result, albeit in several rain-shortened matches.

Both the Te Puke and Pa¯ pa¯ moa Reserve Grade sides suffered losses on the opening day of their Western Bay of Plenty Championship campaigns. Sikh Sports posted 159 and then bowled Pa¯ pa¯ moa out for 54 to claim a big win.

Te Puke had few answers to Western Bay new recruits Hawks CC, who won the previous weekend’s WBOPCA T20 tournament. Te Puke were removed for 151 but could only watch as their opponents cruised to a nine-wicket win.

There was better news for the two Pa¯ pa¯ moa B Grade contenders.

Pa¯ pa¯ moa Wanderers bowled Mount Maunganui Inanga out for just 77 and got home with seven wickets to spare. Papaoma’s bowlers also performed, removing Tauranga Boys’ College Blue for 83 before losing four wickets on the way to the win points on offer. Bay of Plenty Cup results October 31
