Power of four: rollout for new coloured bins

Collection day tweaks as council prepares for kerbside service

-

Rubbish day is about to change for Maketu¯ , Paengaroa, Pongakawa and Pukehina. The changes will come into play at the same time as the Western Bay of Plenty District Council’s new kerbside rubbish and recycling service begins on July 1.

Essentially, the new schedule will see Katikati and Aongatete swap collection days with Maketu¯ , Paengaroa, Pongakawa and Pukehina.

Maketu¯ , Paengaroa, Pongakawa and Pukehina will change to Friday collection.

The rest of the district’s collection days remain mostly the same, with some minor changes.

The council’s deputy CEO and infrastructure services group manager Gary Allis says the upcoming collection day changes will ensure a streamlined service from one end of the district to another.

“Implementing a new service presents the perfect opportunity to make some slight adjustments to the existing collection day schedule. Doing so will create effective routing plans across the district and efficient use of trucks and load volumes calculated to allow for growth,” he says.

“Council and Envirowaste appreciate there will be some adjustment required from some of our residents, but believe in the long run it will pay off.”

If unsure of a collection day for the new service, residents can find their collection day printed on the side of their red lid rubbish bin or yellow lid recycling bin. Residents will also find an information brochure and 12-month collection calendar inside their blue glass crate when delivered this month.

The information brochure outlines what goes in each bin and how to place them on the kerbside while the 12-month collection day calendar shows households when their first collection for each bin will be in July, as well as timings for all collections for the next 12 months.

The collection day changes come as the council begins rolling out 62,000 bins for its new kerbside waste and recycling collections.

The new rubbish, recycling, glass and food scraps bins will be delivered to 17,000 eligible households this month.
