There’s plenty of fundraising going on at the moment. Last weekend, five of our local volunteer firefighters tackled the Firefighter Sky Tower Stair Challenge, completing what, even in shorts and a singlet, would be a lung busting achievement. But they did the 1103 step-climb to the top of the Sky Tower in full firefighting gear, wearing and using breathing apparatus. Not one for the faint of heart.

They earned every one of the $10,210 they raised for Leukaemia & Blood Cancer NZ.

There’s an opportunity on Saturday to contribute to the amazing work of animal rescue service RRR — or Rescue Revive

Rehome to give it its full title.

Anyone who “likes” the RRR Facebook page can’t help but be both appalled at the cruelty of some people towards animals, and blown away by the extraordinary efforts the people behind RRR go to rescue and rehome not just domestic pets but animals and birds of all shapes and sizes. They are holding a pet expo and garage sale at Te Puke Memorial Hall on Saturday to raise money for their work.

Then there’s Logan Roberts who’s mullet is the bane of his parents’ life — they really don’t like it. They may not have to put up with it for much longer as Logan has vowed to have it cut off — but only if he manages to raise the most money in sponsorship for taking part in Te Ranga School’s Mud Madness mud run on July 1. So good luck Logan.

This week we also take a look at the rental situation in Te Puke and the struggles people are having just to make ends meet and keep a roof over their heads.

All these stories and more can be found in this week’s Te Puke Times that also includes this week our twice yearly Agri-view special publication that starts on page 15. It’s a great read.
