MEN’S TEAM

The Men played their last game of the season at home against Tauranga City, falling short 2-0 ending the season in 5th place.

The first half started off with Te Puke under a good amount of pressure with a few shaky moments. TGA tried to capitalise, but some lastsecond defending kept it level.

The home team turned it around and started playing more confidently but struggled in the final third to make any impact. A couple of good saves at both ends kept it level until halftime.

The second half saw the away team take an early lead after a shot was deflected into the path of another striker for a tap in. Te Puke had a couple of chances to level it up but just missed the target.

While TGA sneaked another goal in with 20 minutes left, the Men battled it out but couldn't manage a goal, ending the game 2 nil.

Player of the day went to Jake Wichers for his effort as right back.

Te Puke Men's thanks everyone for all their support this season.

WOMEN’S TEAM

On Sunday the Te Puke United Ladies' team travelled to Edgecumbe to play Plains Rangers and it started well. Within two minutes centre midfielder Maia Moko won the ball and put a wonderful ball through to striker Chynna Davie who squared the ball to strike partner Sammi Parish, 1 nil.

Fourteen minutes later left back Sarah Earle put a ball through for Parish who just managed to get to it before the keeper to push the ball into the back of the net, 2 nil.

The Black and Whites continued the pressure and, in the 42nd minute, Sammi won the ball in the midfield and quickly slotted the ball to Davie who calmly fired the ball into the far corner. Half-time: 3 nil.

The second half started the same as the first when three minutes in Plains had a goal kick and Chynna won the ball and shot straight away, getting her second for the day.

Te Puke Ladies continued with some great interplay. With winger Rosa Atkins getting a lot of space and asking for it plenty of times from midfielder Tori Hill and Parish, it finally came off with Sammi putting a lovely ball through for Atkins to fire the ball into the net in the 71st minute.

Seven minutes later Earle took a wonderful corner and Parish scored a wonderful header.

With the Edgecumbe keeper making some wonderful saves from more shots from Parish, Moko, Hill and centre back Ashley Weld and a wonderful opportunity from Irene Cox, the keeper was keeping busy but in the 81st minute Parish read another goal kick and shot instantly when the ball came out. The keeper couldn't get back into position on time so the Striker got her fourth of the day leaving the final score 7 nil to the Black and Whites.

They did extremely well with half the team suffering from bad hay fever or chesty coughs and only one sub, Kate Earle, who had an injury so was there just in case. It was a wonderful team effort.

Anann pineapple bar pod went to Sammi Parish for her constant talking and encouragement and work rate.

This weekend the Ladies host Papamoa at Litt Park at 12.30pm.
