1878 — August 30. George Stewart Vesey writes to the Minister of Lands asking if the Government would consider entering “into arrangements with me to place a further special settlement party” on lands recently secured on a 25,000-acre block (Te Puke).
1939 — August 28. Te Puke Fire Brigade's new fire engine, a Ford V8 arrives. It costs £550.
1942 — September 1. Te Puke Times is bought by printer and publisher Philip Basham from Mrs Wilsone. 1965 — September 4. The Maketu¯ Playcentre is officially opened, operating out of Nga¯ ti Whakaue dining hall.
1967 — August 29. United Pirates Rugby Club buys the former Jamieson homestead for its clubrooms.
