Regional lifesavers in running for national awards glory

Members of Pukehina, Maketu¯ and Pa¯pa¯moa surf lifesaving clubs have been recognised in the nomination­s for the 2021-22 Surf Lifesaving New Zealand National Awards of Excellence.

Pukehina Surf Rescue chairman Boyd Harris is the Bay of Plenty nominee for the Lifeguard of the Year award.

Maketu¯ Surf Lifesaving Club chairwoman Mereheni Meads is up for the Volunteer of the

Year award.

Pa¯pa¯moa Surf Lifesaving Club's Ryan Hohneck is the Bay of Plenty's nominee for the Instructor of the Year Award.

The SLSNZ Awards of Excellence are held every year to recognise the many club members putting in considerab­le time, effort and skill at a grassroots level to make sure Kiwis who head to the beach get home safe.

The regional awards culminate in the National Awards of Excellence on September 17.

The 2021-22 SLSNZ National Awards of Excellence winners will be announced on the SLSNZ Facebook page on September 17 and 18.
