Gala features seed swap

Community garden holds its gala day

-

Swapping seeds and buying seedlings are just two of the attractions of this weekend’s Te Puke Community Garden gala. The gala will be at the garden — behind Te Puke New World — on Saturday starting at 10am. There will also be a sausage sizzle and mushroom kit raffle.

“Our gala will have seedlings for sale in punnets such as beetroot, kohlrabi, spinach lettuce and many more all ready to start up your summer gardens,” says community garden chairwoman Julie Gray.

“Our seedling sales over the years have also been a great success so hopefully some seedlings sales from the gardens will be well received.”

The garden’s seed library started some time ago and there will now be set times when people can go along to swap seeds.

“In the future we will be having a dedicated time and day to hopefully swap seeds with you all. Seeds we have been collecting are parsnip, carrots, variety of beans, pumpkin, kamokamo and many more so come along for the swap and bring your seeds. You will also be able to purchase.”
