THIS WEEK IN HISTORY
1908 — September 29: Mrs Margaret Souter (nee Kelly) is appointed Maketu¯ Postmistress, but only on a part-time basis.
1919 — September 30: A 10-stamp battery weighing 70 tons is brought to Te Puke from Waih¯ı via rail and ship. It is then transported to Muir’s Reef around the tight corners and steep hills of No 3 and No 4 roads. 1929 — September 27: The Te Puke Flower Show committee decides to cut ties with the A&P Association and the Te Puke Horticultural Society is formed.
1973 — September: The Paengaroa and Pongakawa railway stations close.
