1882 — October 6: The Bay of Plenty Times reports the Kaituna Bridge is opened with the first vehicle across a cart load of fish driven by James J Piercy of Maketu¯ .

1908 — October 2: The works superinten­dent of the post office starts the erection of telephone wires at Te Puke.

1921 — October 4: Three German machine guns arrive in Te Puke as the town's share of the war trophies allotted to the Bay of Plenty.

1926 — October 6: Te Ranga School opens in a new building about a mile further up Te Matai Rd. The original school building is then used as the district hall.

1958 — October 5: The Te Puke Beautifyin­g Society is formed. Among its aims are the encouragem­ent of civic pride in Te Puke and surrounds and the further improvemen­t of public parks and open spaces.
