Organic Gold orchard in the heart of prime kiwifruit country

- By Cameron Scott

A rare opportunity to purchase a large block of horticultural land planted in 5.0can/ha of licensed Zespri Gold organic kiwifruit is available with the sale of a property in Maniatutu Rd, Te Puke.

The property covers 18ha (more or less, subject to survey) and is situated in the heart of New Zealand’s best kiwifruit country. It’s being marketed by Steve

Low, rural, lifestyle and horticulture specialist with Bayleys Tauranga. He says Maniatutu Road is in one of Te Puke’s premium kiwifruit growing locations and is highly regarded by growers for generating high yields, dry matter and Kiwistart premium payments.

“Prime land such as this is tightly held and opportunities to purchase largescale, high-quality production blocks are scarce,” he says.

The 18ha (more or less, subject to survey) will be divided into two titles:

Six hectares is planted with 5.0can/ ha of licensed Zespri Gold organic, and 0.5can/ha planted in males. The land also holds great potential as a site for new variety trials. The remaining 12ha (more or less, subject to survey) of flat and bare fertile land would be ideal for continued expansion of a production orchard operation.

Steve says the Gold organic development has been done to a particularly high standard and the orchard is fully irrigated and protected against frost.

The early budburst is looking extremely good on the developing canopy, which is projected to produce 10,000 te’s/ can/ha for next season. The land has an excellent water supply as both titles have consented access to the adjacent stream. The property will be sold plus GST (if any). “The strategically-located block represents a fantastic opportunity to invest in the lucrative Zespri Gold organic category, and a new owner could use the cash flow from the existing block to further develop the balance of the property,” Steve adds.

Anyone interested in investing in a solid growth industry or expanding their existing kiwifruit operations should contact Steve as soon as possible, as this remarkable opportunity is unlikely to be available for long.

Te Puke, known as New Zealand’s “Kiwifruit Capital” is just 15 minutes up the road and the nearby Tauranga Eastern Link Expressway provides a quick and convenient connection with Mount Maunganui and Tauranga.

Pongakawa has a thriving rural community, and since the opening of the expressway, there has been a strong trend for dairy and dry stock farms to be converted to kiwifruit orchards and lifestyle and residential subdivisions. A short drive away from beautiful beaches in Mount Maunganui, Tauranga, and Rotorua, Pongakawa is around 40 minutes’ drive from both Tauranga and Rotorua.

Te Puke has wide range of businesses servicing the kiwifruit industry and there are strong grower advice groups in the area.
