1898 — October 14: Mr AH Whitehouse brings his kinematogr­aph and phonograph show to Te Puke Mission Hall. 1907 — October 14: The Te Ranga Aided School is opened in the lounge of the home of Joseph Lawry Vercoe (Jnr) and his wife Mary on Upper Rangiuru Rd.

1913 — October 10: Town board chairman Thomas Palmer convenes a meeting with the intention of forming a fire brigade and that night the Te Puke Fire Brigade and Salvage Corps is formed. 1913 — October 16: The official opening of the Mount to Te Puke Railway. The first train of five trucks and two carriages leaves from Te Puke.

1961 — October 12: Two Jellicoe St shops are destroyed and five more badly damaged by a fire that is thought to have started in the Continenta­l Cafe which is one of the shops destroyed. The other is Graham Gemming’s Shoe Shop.
