THIS WEEK IN HISTORY
1831 — October: Rev Henry William and Thomas Chapman visit Maketu¯ on the way to Rotorua looking for sites for a further CMS Missions.
1911 — October 19: The annual Te Puke Children's Fancy Dress Ball is held at Mcdowell's Hall.
1912 — October 21: The New Zealand Public Works Statement allocates £25,000 for the Tauranga to Paengaroa railway, no money is allocated for the Rotorua to Paengaroa line, to the consternation of the Paengaroa and Pa¯pa¯moa Progressive Leagues. 1914 — October 22: The Pa¯pa¯moa Post Office moves from the Pa¯pa¯moa School building to the Pa¯pa¯moa railway station.
1948 — October 21: Governorgeneral Sir Bernard and Lady Fergusson visit Te Puke. There is a civic reception at Jubilee Park with a guard of honour of exservicemen. They drive past what is reputed to be the Southern Hemisphere's largest wisteria in King St.
