a¯pa¯moa Kings made a great start to the WBOPCA Classic Builders T20 Championship which began on Saturday with two convincing victories. First up the Kings defeated Greerton after posting 157 for the loss of seven wickets. Lakesh Gahlan and Aman Mahal both played big parts in the solid Pa¯ pa¯ moa target reaching the 40s before being dismissed.

The Kings’ bowlers then strangled their opponent’s attempts to hit out and restricted them to 131 for four wickets. Yash Patel, Rana Virk and Lakesh Gahlan each took a wicket, with Patel claiming the key scalp of Greerton skipper Tom Rutherford.

Pa¯pa¯moa Kings were in the box seat after rolling a fired-up Katikati XI for just 92, in their second round encounter. GS Billing and Vishnu Bansal were in good form with the ball with two wickets apiece. However they were made to work hard to grab the win points on offer, in losing six wickets. Lakesh Gahlan who again top scored with 39 runs, was the rock that took them home to victory.

The second Pa¯pa¯moa team failed to chase down Hawks score of 110/7, being removed 32 runs short of their target, in their sole match on opening day.

Pa¯pa¯moa highlights, saw Ryan Douglas take two wickets for 18 runs, while former Bay of Plenty batsman Mark Divehall top scored with a run a ball 26.
