Weed interest growing
If anyone knows a thing or two about weeds, its the people involved in Te Puke Community Garden. On Saturday the garden will host a weed workshop — but it might not be just what you think it is.
The workshop is to pass on information on what uses — medicinal, or otherwise — weeds might have.
The workshop will be led by Linda Barratt.
Community garden members have been collecting seeds and coordinating a seed swap service — which will be operating on Saturday and there will be some seedlings for sale.
The seed swap was so successful at the community garden’s September gala, that it is now also running twice a week on Wednesdays and Fridays, usually between 9am and 10am when members are working on the gardens.
Seeds are both for sale and for swapping.
“We are very proud of the fact that we have collected these from the garden and are also using them to grow our produce knowing that they are also organic,” says chairwoman Julie Gray.
Saturday’s workshop will start at 10am with a donation to cover costs being asked for.
Te Puke Community Garden is on Jocelyn St, behind Te Puke New World.
