Pa¯ pa¯ moa Kings threaten 400

a¯pa¯moa Kings repelled their first challenge of the Don Warner Challenge Trophy in style, posting a massive 179-run win against Greerton on Saturday.

There were plenty of fireworks on Guy Fawkes day as the Pa¯ pa¯ moa side blasted their way to 383 for the loss of just four wickets in the Classic Builders Reserve Grade match. Captain Aman Mahal opened his side’s turn at bat and played a measured innings, as he compiled 116 runs off 114 balls, with 16 fours and one six.

The Kings were in the box seat when the skipper departed at 180 for one. Jaskirat Singh and Ajay Kumar continued the momentum with halfcentur­ies, as the Kings careered away to post nearly four hundred runs in their allotted 50 overs.

Greerton made a determined attempt to chase down the massive target, but were held to 204 with one wicket in hand. Louis Morris anchored his team’s innings with 87 off 119 balls. Raminder Singh was the best of the victors’ bowlers taking four wickets at a cost of just 15 runs.

Te Puke Charda Panjab opening batsman Gurpreet Padda took control of his side’s meeting with Tauranga Boys’ College 4th XI in both innings in a division two match.

Padda smashed the highest score of the season, blasting 186 at a strike rate of 164.60, with his team reaching 330/9 in their 40 overs. Standing behind the stumps in the Tauranga Boys’ reply, he effected three stumpings as they were restricted to 171 for the loss of six wickets.

Cadets cruised to an eight-wicket win over the Te Puke 2nd XI in Reserve Grade. Te Puke were bowled out for 86, with their highest score of 18 telling the tale of the coming and goings at the batting crease. The Te Puke Domain Reserve Grade game came to an end with the third ball of the 19th over with Cadets taking maximum points.

Te Puke Blue finished with a two from two win record after defeating Mount Maunganui in their Classic Builders Division One match. The Mount were dismissed for 115, with Swayan Kaul removing three batsmen for only seven runs. Bikram Sandhu led the reply with a unbeaten 46 runs in the Te Puke side’s sixwicket win.

Papaomas posted a shining light performanc­e in their Division Two loss to Tauranga Boys’ College. Tony Biesiek grabbed five TBC wickets for 39 runs as the students reached 232/7. Pa¯pa¯moa went for 113 to give TBC a 119-run victory.
