THIS WEEK IN HISTORY
1915 — November 30: Te Puke and district raise over £3000 for the Auckland Patriotic Relief Fund at a patriotic rally that includes a carnival day, procession, carnival queen and .a game of football.
1929 — December 3: The first Te Puke Horticultural Society Flower Show is held in Mcdowell’s Hall. 1947 — December 2: All the district’s schools are closed by the health department and education board due to another outbreak of infantile paralysis. The town baths are closed and there is no Christmas parade and no school prizegiving. 1964 — November 28: A Presbyterian church and hall are opened in Pukehina on the corner of Old Coach Rd and Pukehina Station Rd for the parish of St Paul’s Matata.
1975 — November 29: The O¯ tanewainuku picnic shelter is opened by Tauranga County Council chairman A Gordon Spratt, who is two hours late due to his exploration of this part of the county.
