Challenge trophy has new holder

United Indians end Kings’ unbeaten run

he big game in the Classic Builders Reserve Grade on Saturday saw the Don Warner Challenge Trophy change hands after United Indians relieved Pa¯pa¯moa Kings of the big prize and their unbeaten start to the season.

United Indians were bowled out for 188, with Lakhwinder Bhatti top scoring with a half-century. The Pa¯pa¯moa reply got away to a solid start before the first wicket fell with 45 runs on the board. But at seven down and 137 runs on the board, the Kings were falling behind the required run rate, and were finally dismissed for 168, to give United Indians a hard fought 20 run win.

The Pa¯pa¯moa second team made up for the Kings’ defeat with a solid victory over Hawks. Pa¯ pa¯ moa bowler Caleb Farrington snared six wickets at a cost of 33 runs, as Hawks were removed for 178. Pa¯pa¯moa skipper Brad Harding top scored with 47 runs, as Pa¯pa¯moa got home with three wickets to spare.

Te Puke Reserves posted their first win of the Reserve First Round competitio­n in defeating Aquinas College. The Aquinas target of 155 proved little trouble with Te Puke steaming home for a six wicket win.

Te Puke Reserve veteran Chris Rowe led with 55 with Daniel Courtis supporting with an unbeaten 44 runs.

Te Puke Blue laid down the challenge to Cadets in their Classic Builders Division One encounter when they reached 220 for the loss of seven wickets. Bikram Sandhu top scored with an unbeaten 69, with Mayank Tandon posting a half century. Cadets Danny Dixon top scored of 57, gas his side were dismissed for 189.

Classic Builders Division Two action saw Te Puke Charda Panjab post their third win of the First Round competitio­n in comprehens­ively beating Bay Blasters. Te Puke scored at better than a run a ball, to reach 275 for six wickets in their time at the crease.

Barnit Singh top scored with 71 not out with Gagandeep and Kala Singh making useful contributi­ons to big total.

Four wickets to Sukhpreet Singh played a big part in Bay Blasters being rolled for 107, to give the Te Puke side a massive 172 run victory.
