Te Puke Times

New faces but same passion and drive

Time of reflection, planning and evaluation Respect our village and leave only footprints

Kia Ora Te Puke. Every year over the last four years has been a bit of a blur. The best, the worst and all that’s in between still resonates with many of you today.

The changes we have seen in our community, our own lives and loved ones, and the changes we are still seeing, are present are like cogs in a clock — they keep on ticking.

This time of year is always a time of reflection, planning and evaluating what has worked and what hasn’t. It’s so important for this time because it allows us to move forward and progress.

This year we have seen a change of guard, a new council and new

Kia ora wha¯ nau, friends and neighbours.

I just want to wish everyone a safe and happy Christmas, New Year and holiday period.

Our Kiwi summer isn’t exactly off to a great start, but hopefully the weather will improve.

Maketu¯ is definitely a prime destination over the summer period. We look forward to the influx of people from near and far. We would also like to remind people to respect our beautiful village by leaving only footprints.

In terms of gathering seafood, please only take what you need and within the current quota per person (signage is displayed in these community board, but still with the same passion and drive to see our district to be in a better position than when we arrived. We have lost some of our most precious taonga. Rev Manu Wihapi will leave a gaping hole in our rohe and hearts.

Next year we will see more progress, goals and projects completed but still the consistency of a strong community behind each other for the greater good and our future generations

I hope everyone and their wha¯ nau has a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Nga¯ mihi.

chairwoman locations) and a reminder that Little Waih¯ı estuary is not safe for swimming or gathering seafood due to extraordinary E. coli levels. Please follow these guidelines as we don’t want anyone to get sick as we have seen in the past.

By all means come and enjoy a workout by the beach on our outdoor exercise equipment or a free barbecue in the reserve. Please remember to be sun smart and limit time out in the peak of burn times.

With that said, all council services such as rubbish collection remain the same.

Lastly, any reports of issues that are council-related can be logged via our app, Antenno, that can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play, or by ringing council’s 0800 number.

Merry Christmas everyone and a Happy New Year. Let’s bring on 2023.
