Merry Christmas Te Puke. Christmas is the time that brings family and friends together, when we can think of others and spread goodwill and best wishes to all.
Te Puke is a fantastic town with a diverse and vibrant community. I’m extremely proud to be your local MP and to have had a chance to bring many of my colleagues to see the good things about our electorate during the year.
A highlight was raising funds to support RSE workers when we hosted the Parliamentary Rugby team in what was an extremely wet and physical game against a local Zespri XV. This event promises to become an annual fixture at the rugby club, and I look forward to finding my old boots at the back of the cupboard again next year.
The Christmas parade is another highlight and great to have back after a few years of Covid restrictions.
A huge thank you to all those who helped to decorate my MP truck with tinsel and a Christmas dragon — congrats to all the float parade winners.
Christopher Luxon visited twice learning about the problems of labour shortages in the kiwifruit industry and to thank local volunteers and community groups for their hard work.
He sees great opportunity and promise in our district and was grateful for the warm reception.
A huge congratulations to all our students who won awards for academic, cultural, and sporting achievement this year. The Te Puke High School prizegiving is always rewarding to attend, and I was honoured to be asked to give away prizes during what was an outstanding year. Thank you to our many teachers who work so hard.
The Te Puke Volunteer Fire Brigade and St John’s officers are some of the best in the country.
Thank you for your service and for keeping us safe during a busy holiday period.
On a sad note, I’d like to mark the passing of local personality and longstanding Te Puke resident Des Mcgregor. Des had such a rich and infectious character and will be sorely missed.
