Looking for a good summer read and not sure where to start? The team at Western Bay of Plenty District Council Libraries have you sorted.

Here are their recommenda­tions to take on holiday or for your nightstand, with a little something for everyone — including a young adults’ book, two recent adult fiction books by

Kiwi authors, and a recipe book to inspire you in the kitchen.

■ Sense and Second-degree Murder by Tirzah Price

This is a clever retelling of the Jane Austen classic with a murder mystery twist! It’s a young adult book but adults would enjoy it too. The familiar characters are given new personalit­y traits and put into different circumstan­ces but remain strongly based on the originals. Well written, witty, and suspensefu­l, it keeps you guessing until the very end!

■ Harbouring by Jenny Pattrick

Jenny Pattrick has an amazing ability to bring history alive by drawing us into the lives of her characters.

Harbouring describes the lives of a family of poor Welsh settlers and a young Ma¯ori woman at the time of Colonel Wakefield and the New Zealand Company’s 1840s settlement of Wellington. It’s enjoyable and eyeopening.

Set in the Ruahine Ranges, this enjoyable book is about the relationsh­ip between a father and daughter, the challenges of living with dementia and the secrets that lay buried in a 25-year-old mystery. It’s an emotional

■ Simple Wholefoods by Sophie Steevens

If you are embracing the refined sugar free, gluten free and plantbased trend then this is the book for you. Recipes that are nourishing, tasty and cost effective by using pantry staples and seasonal produce. Fans of the author will know her first book Raw and Free. This second book continues the recipe journey and helps you to easily change up your food choices for the better. Try out the ‘carrot cake cookies’ they are awesome!
