All dogs have the potential to bite. The only dogs who bite and make it on the media seem to be pitbull terriers.

The supposedly friendly labrador has the worst reputation for biting but they don’t make it into the media. Why?

Is it because no one wants to believe that story or because it’s a boring read? Pitbulls are here for a purpose and the elite of this world know it. The Government announced it is going to spend an additional one billion dollars to facilitate the growing number of inmates in our prisons.

Why are we spending all this taxpayer money creating bigger and better prisons for the dregs of our society?

Prisons should be a place where offenders do hard time, not spend it in somewhat luxury with three meals a day and all the home comforts. Ask a pensioner living on a mere $17,000 a year how they manage after paying the rent, power, heating and food - the answer is not very well.

Instead of spending money on the law breakers why not spend it on the law abiding citizens who have worked hard all their lives only to find they have to live on the bread line when they retire.

The NZ Seniors Party is made up of such people who have worked all their lives, paid their taxes and been law abiding citizens.

Pensioners are the forgotten generation that are forced to live in poverty while criminals live in the lap of luxury.

It is time all the seniors of NZ stood together to send a clear message to Government that enough is enough. Tania McInnes wonders why there was a low voter turn out. She says, ‘‘there is not a clear understand­ing of what council does, how it operates or what it is responsibl­e for.’’

What does council intend to do to rectify this lack of understand­ing? I too agree with Jeff Spector’s comments.

We don’t want any smoke and mirrors and the usual meaningles­s patter and we certainly don’t want any more of this mediocrity.

People are apathetic precisely because they feel they are powerless. What most ratepayers want is a fairer rating system and
