Air NZ video premieres in Kerikeri

- BAYLEY MOOR

Kerikeri’s Cathay Cinema played host to a glitzy event to premiere Air New Zealand’s latest safety video.

launched to an audience of around 80 local dignitaries, Air New Zealand staff and several famous faces - including stars of the video Jayden Daniels and Joe Naufahu.

The video showcases the Bay of Islands and the Hokianga as Shortland Street star Jayden Daniels road trips through the area, including visits to Waitangi, Tane Mahuta and Opononi and meeting celebrity friends such as Rachel Hunter and Olympic bronze medallist Eliza McCartney.

Air New Zealand captain Louise Maihi, originally from Rawene and flight-trained in Kerikeri says she really enjoyed the experience of filming.

‘‘It’s such a great experience - to go from flying an aeroplane to being on a film set.

‘‘I’m proud to show off where I come from.’’

Bay of Islands Marketing Group Chair Charles Parker says, he like most of Paihia, were waiting to see if they had made the cut (he didn’t). The group invested in the video project as part of their aim to drive awareness of the Bay of Islands as a tourism destination.

‘‘Being able to showcase the best of our region to millions around the world is a huge opportunity. We look forward to welcoming even more Kiwi and international visitors to come and experience the North for themselves.’’

Fullers GreatSights Captain Taira Peters stars alongside IndyCar legend Scott Dixon in a scene out on the water in the Bay of Islands.

‘‘It’s exciting for me and the area. It’s authentic, while it’s nice to have the recognised stars, there are ordinary people too, it’s nice to be involved.

The Northland video is the 13th safety video created by Air New Zealand, with the now iconic visuals reaching more than 120 millions views. They spend six months screening on board before the next video is released.

It was rolled across the fleet on December 14 and produced in 56 formats.

Television and radio personality Jesse Mulligan MC’d the event, which also featured a surprise performance from Ladyhawke, who provided the soundtrack to the new video.
