Unique art show returns
Encourage locals to support locals and appreciate the fact that tourists are a major part of this economy. So be realistic that that’s the way it is up here.
I like walking and I’m involved in the women’s chorus and I’m in a small orchestra. A unique Kerikeri art exhibition has been revived after 20 years and made its way back to the Turner Centre.
Called 100x100, each artwork measures only 100mm by 100mm and features over 100 works representing 11 ethnicities with an age range from 15 to 91.
Spokesman Mike Nettmann says the art show was originally started in the mid 90’s by artist Cecilia Russell and her husband Rob.
It was highly successful for many years but after the Russells left the area it was no longer continued.
A group of Kerikeri artists have got together to bring back 100x100 to Kerikeri and the Far North.
Nettmann says there has been an overwhelming response from Northland artists.
‘‘Within such a small format the artist’s creativity and ingenuity are put to the test.
‘‘One image has been created entirely from the workings inside watches.’’
Painting, drawing, photography, etching, mono-print, enamel, chine colle, original prints, cutouts and more are featured.
They include a collagraph by Lynne Price and a painting by Ayla Irving Lamb titled ‘The Upside Down’.
The show will be held at The Turner Centre until April 30. For more information visit turnercentre.co.nz or phone 09 407 0260.
