Tale of Poi E being turned into a movie

THE story behind one of New Zealand’s iconic songs is being turned into a movie.

A production crew will be in Patea this weekend shooting scenes for the film Poi E: The Story

Publicist Sue May said the film would be a mix of dramatised events and real-life footage and would outline the role Dalvanius Prime had in the development of the group’s hit song. The song celebrated its 30-year anniversary last year after topping the New Zealand charts in 1984. It hit number three in 2010 after the song was included in the soundtrack of Taika Waititi’s film Boy.

The film would be completed by the end of the year.
