KiwiRail case

-

KiwiRail has been charged over three workplace incidents in the space of three months. The stateowned enterprise is due to appear in Auckland District Court on Thursday charged with being an employer that failed to take all practicable steps to ensure its employees were not exposed to the hazard of being hit by a train while at work. Paul Anderson, 37, an employee of contractor Downer, was hit by a freight train while working on a section of track south of Turangi on June 17, 2014. Two weeks later, a train collided with a wood chipper at Carterton, south of Masterton, though there were no injuries. In the same area on August 11, a train stopped short of workers on a bridge near Masterton, again with no injuries.
