COURAGE OF CROWE RECOGNISED
Ali Ikram’s article (Your Weekend, January 30) has changed my view of Martin Crowe. He proposed that Crowe’s foibles, such as anxiety about job performance, hair loss and illness, have been his strengths because he acknowledged them at the expense of his reputation. And in doing so he has probably been a leader in the evolution of the ‘‘Kiwi male’’ because we all acknowledge these things now. Ikram’s perspective made me realise we have a living taonga in Crowe because he displays courage. Funnily it also reminded me of when I visited India, where a young man asked me where I was from, to which his limited English reply was ‘‘Ah, Martin Crowe!’’ ADAM ERRINGTON
