A Christchurch shopkeeper grabbed a pitchfork and chased an armed robber after being forced to hand over a small sum of cash. A hooded man armed with a hammer tried to get behind the counter of the Hampshire St Mini Mart in Aranui, Christchurch, about 7am yesterday. Array Hu, the owner’s son, said he handed over a small amount of cash before grabbing a pitchfork stashed nearby for protection and chasing the man out of the shop and down the street. Police believe the holdup is linked to a similar robbery at another dairy in the suburb at the weekend. Police are questioning a man in his mid-20s about both robberies.
