Snail on menu

The first diners at Heston Blumenthal’s The Fat Duck in Melbourne have begun gobbling up Snail Porridge and donning headphones to experience the Sound of The Sea. Just 14,000 diners from more than 250,000 who went into a ballot got a booking at the famed UK restaurant, which has relocated from Bray, Berkshire, for six months. Diners will fork out A$525 to experience the 15-course degustation. Dishes include Mad Hatter’s Tea Party (mock turtle soup) and Sound of the Sea – a plate of seafood served with a seafood foam, tapioca, breadcrumbs and eel. Diners are given an iPod to listen to the sea while they eat.
