Train error derails protest

ADOLF HITLER proverbially made the railways run on time but Germany’s neo-Nazis were the butt of jokes yesterday after getting on the wrong train and missing their own rally.

The far-Right followers had to abandon a show of support for a sacked colleague after failing to understand the departures board and ending up 200km from their planned destination.

Police and hundreds of counterdemonstrators were waiting for them to arrive in Freiburg, southwest Germany, when word spread that the National Democratic party supporters were hopelessly lost. ‘‘Without their Fuhrer the Nazis cannot even get on the right train,’’ read one of many tweets.

The group of 20 neo-Nazis were coming from Karlsruhe, 130km north of Freiburg. After police prevented them from boarding a train packed with football fans, they switched to another one.

No-one noticed until the doors had closed and it was too late to get off that it was heading in the wrong direction.
