SEVENS TEAM MAKE A SPLASH

- COLLETTE DEVLIN

The Wellington Sevens don’t start until Friday, but the New Zealand team have already made a splash.

They descended on Queens Wharf yesterday afternoon to cool off after a training game against Argentina at Porirua Park. Some of them jumped from a higher wharf, somersaulting into the water. A few were not as brave – sitting down on the lower wharf before jumping.

Gillies Kaka motivated his team-mates with a playlist from his phone.

Winger Ambrose Curtis was pleased with his efforts because it was his first jump. ‘‘A few of the guys have done this many times.’’

The 2014 IRB Sevens Rookie of the Year said he enjoyed the plunge but it was ‘‘a bit chilly’’.

Joe Webber said the guys liked to take a plunge after training. They were amped up and ready for the tournament, and hopeful of a win again this year, he said.
