SAVE OUR BOOKS IN SCHOOLS
Hello class, let’s do a practical maths exercise today – a costbenefit analysis.
Scenario one: the Government puts $100 million towards building bicycle lanes. How many cyclists will this benefit?
Scenario two: the National Library is intent on saving $392,000 (about 1/25th of $100m) by stopping providing books being lent to schools.
There are lots of school pupils, so how many people will that affect?
Scenario three: if it took four hours for a brewery to raise $500,000, how long would it take the hard done-by National Library to raise $392,000 and let our kids read real books?
That, class, is what your homework is – to appreciate who really benefits from how your parents’ taxes are spent. ROB WILSON
