Police checks
Re Scandal leaves questions (Editorial, March 11), the writer says airily that police checks are a precaution. But to one who has to submit to such a check there are strong feelings of resentment, nay anger. The check is an infringement of his personal dignity, a trespass upon his person.
From the government down the ‘‘cancer’’ of this practice has spread. Is the population really now dishonest?
Such checks should be required only when there are grounds to suspect, as was the case when the police had to have grounds to stop a motorist. ADRIAN JAMES COLEMAN
