Fingerpointing over R18 tobacco sales proposal
The Government says cigarettes may have to be sold in R18 locations such as liquor stores to combat the rise of violent tobaccorelated dairy robberies. But NZ First leader Winston Peters likened the move to suggesting banks stop dispensing money if they felt threatened by robbers, or that woman stop going out for jogs if they felt threatened by rapists. Tobacco was a legal product, and instead of blaming shopkeepers, the Government should look to itself, Peters said.
