Coulthard cool on Supercars future
The all-Kiwi Supercars dream team at Shell V-Power Racing could be a one-off, but both Fabian Coulthard and the team are giving little away.
Coulthard, who partners Scott McLaughlin, is leading the championship after eight races, just ahead of compatriot Shane van Gisbergen.
He signed a two-year deal with the team, which started at the beginning of the 2016 season and did it tough last year, finishing 12th in the championship.
Last year was disappointing for the team all round, as their Ford Falcons driven by Coulthard and Scott Pye didn’t have the pace to compete with the categories leaders.
That’s all changed this year as Coulthard and New Zealand team-mate Scott McLaughlin were amongst drivers.
However, Coulthard may have to move on next season if he doesn’t sign a new deal with the team. At the moment though, the 34-year-old isn’t giving away anything on what lies ahead for him.
‘‘The team don’t let me disclose what’s happening and things like that,’’ Coulthard told Inside Supercars.
‘‘For me, the way we’re going, why would you want go anywhere else? It’s pretty straightforward.’’
At times last year Coulthard looked clearly frustrated that his car wasn’t good enough. With Team Penske, joining up with DJR, the team was supposed to be challenging for race wins, but that didn’t happen and Coulthard finished on the podium only twice.
‘‘For us, it’s more about the consistency,’’ he said. the quickest
