Check out the latest and greatest at The Food Show

-

THE Food Show is coming to Wellington’s Westpac Stadium, from May 26-28, and among the many fabulous flavours awaiting you are these new foodie finds for you to check out. Old fashioned dairy: For generations, Kiwis enjoyed milk fresh from the farm, delivered in clear glass bottles with the delicious rich cream rising to the top. Aunt Jean’s Dairy lets you rediscover this tradition. This milk tastes just like milk used to, and every glass bottle it comes in identifies the farm or origin, so you know exactly where it comes from. You’ll bee stoked with this: If your kids’ school is packaging-free (or you care about the environment), you’ll love beeswax infused washable food wraps. Made from cotton fabric infused with pure New Zealand beeswax, you can use these beautifully patterned babies like you would plastic cling wrap – they’re great for wrapping lunches, storing leftovers or as reusable bowl covers. Simply mold and shape using the warmth of your hands, and wash in cool water to use over and over again. BeeWrapt! and Honeywrap are made in New Zealand, and come in a range of colours and patterns. Lovers rejoice: Garlic is often touted for it’s health giving properties – but it sure doesn’t do the breath any favours. Not anymore. Black garlic is produced by heating fresh garlic at a low temperature for one and a half months to caramelise it. The resulting product no longer has the highly astringent sharp taste of fresh garlic and doesn’t have the bad breath effect either. There is no nutritional loss, in fact, it’s been shown to have two and a half times more antioxidants than fresh garlic. Karamaya Black Garlic can be used as a spread on any food – savoury or sweet. Add it after cooking for an amazing flavour boost, or serve it with antipasto platters. Get crafty: Have aspirations of becoming a craft beer connoisseur? Take the crash course at The Food Show’s Brewer’s Lane. A collection of breweries will be showcasing their range of craft beers, and you will discover new brews, meet the brewers and pick their brains for some insider knowledge that’ll make you sound like a pro. New Zealand Botanics: TAHA is a nonalcoholic quencher made with hand-picked Kawakawa, Manuka Honey, and ginger – a fusion of traditional Asian and Maori herbal knowledge. The native New Zealand Kawakawa is picked wild from pristine forest before being included in this delicious sparkling tonic. It goes brilliantly with a shot of gin and a slice of lime! Water ganache bonbons: Honest Chocolat’s specialty are water ganache bonbons, which don’t contain any dairy and only have a limited amount of sugar – not because it’s trendy, but because they believe it goes hand in hand with producing the best tasting chocolates that manage to be both bright and clean, rich and decadent all at the same time. These vegan-friendly artistic beauties look almost too good to eat (almost).
