National may let MPs vote freely on medicinal weed
National’s caucus is still debating whether to allow a conscience vote on Julie-Anne Genter’s medicinal cannabis member’s bill. The proposed law would let the terminally ill and those with debilitative conditions grow, possess and consume cannabis with a doctor’s support. Genter has secured Labour’s votes through the bill’s first reading but will likely need National votes to get it over the line, as NZ First is hesitant. The bill won’t get any further than one reading before the election.
