Fish net owner found

-

The owner of a trawl net full of dead dogfish found on a Timaru beach has been identified and it appears he was within the law to cut the net free. The Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) tracked down the owner through the type of net used. MPI senior compliance officer/fishery officer Ian Henderson said the net’s owner, a commercial fisherman, had been found. Fishery officers made contact with him yesterday morning and asked him organise the net’s removal. Nets were usually only cut away for the vessel and crew’s safety.
