Paraglider hurt in crash
A paraglider has been flown to hospital after suffering a back injury following a crash at a South Taranaki beach. The paraglider crashed about one kilometre south of Kaupokonui Heads Rd, near the Kaupokonui Stream, about 3.10pm yesterday, a police spokeswoman said. A St John ambulance spokesperson said the location of the crash was inaccessible by road, so a helicopter equipped with winching capabilities was brought in from Palmerston North. A man with moderate injuries had been flown to Taranaki Base Hospital, the spokesperson said.
