Ardern to meet Australia Labor Party leader Shorten

Jacinda Ardern will meet Australian Labor Party leader Bill Shorten in Auckland this evening for an informal dinner, her first meeting with him as prime minister. The opposition leader is clearly a fan of Ardern, reversing his previous stance on New Zealand’s offer to resettle the 150 Manus Island refugees once she started pushing for it. When Ardern became prime minister he said New Zealanders ‘‘have again provided an inspiration for women and girls around the world.’’
