New Camry flies through crash tests
Toyota’s new eighthgeneration Camry, due to be launched in New Zealand early next year, has just been awarded the top fivestar Ancap safety rating.
The rating applies to all Camry variants coming to New Zealand four cylinder, V6 and hybrids.
In the Australian New Car Assessment Programme testing, maximum points were scored in destructive pole and side impact crash tests, and a high score of 15.16 points out of a possible 16 points was achieved in a frontal offset test which replicated a headon crash.
‘‘We’re pleased to see Toyota maintain a high level of safety, with manufacturing of the Camry now switched from Australian production to a Japanese-built model,’’ said Ancap chief executive officer James Goodwin.
The latest Camry, which is built on a new platform and features new powertrains with higher power and better fuel economy, has just been launched in Australia.
Cornerstones of the 2018 Camry are a redesigned hybrid system with a new direct-injected four cylinder engine, and a new V6 engine with direct-injection technology and an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Toyota New Zealand says full details of the Camry model rangewill be announced at the time of the Kiwi model launch, which will be in March.
