Deadly mistake

-

A Russian woman has died after she was ‘‘embalmed alive’’ in hospital. Investigators suspect criminal negligence after a doctor injected Ekaterina Fedyaeva, 27, with formalin, a poisonous formaldehyde-based solution, instead of a saline solution. Fedyaeva was undergoing an operation in Ulyanovsk to remove a cyst from her ovary when the solution was injected into her abdomen. Rashid Abdullov, the regional health minister, said medical personnel ‘‘did not read the name on a bottle’’. They face up to three years in jail if found guilty of causing death by negligence.
