A week of noodles on the water

-

The Night Noodle Market, a waterside Asian food festival, is back in the capital for a second time - with an exciting debut from an Australian vendor thrown into the mix.

Sydney-based Puffle will be joining the celebrations for the first time, bringing with them their Korean fried chicken cheese waffles. They’ll be joined by fellow Aussies Hoy Pinoy.

The hawker joint, from Melbourne, was crowned crowd favourite last year, for their chicken and pork skewers.

The previous event was a hit with Wellingtonians. According to events operations manager David Blackwell, more than 100,000 people attended the street food festival last time it took place in 2016.

The five-day long fest, featuring 18 food and drink vendors, has been moved to Frank Kitts Park. Blackwell explains there are some Welly favourites in the mix.

‘‘We’ve selected some of the best Asian food vendors from Australia and New Zealand, including Wellington mainstays House of Dumplings, St Johns Bar, The Arborist and Monsoon Poon.

‘‘From families and friends to first dates and foodies, it’s a great night out for everyone.’’

People who always forget to stop at an ATM (that would include us), will be relieved to hear that the site will be cashless, with every stall accepting paywave. A move which, Blackwell says, will reduce queuing times and improve stallholder safety.
