Bus drivers to strike

Many Wellington bus services will be cancelled tomorrow as bus drivers go on strike. The Tramways Union, which represents bus drivers, said union members employed by operator NZ Bus would strike between 9am and 3pm. That meant all Wellington City routes operated by NZ Bus would be cancelled during the strike. The dispute is over bus drivers’ terms and conditions. In October, some union drivers employed by another of Wellington’s bus operators, Tranzurban, went on strike for one day. But the strike had little effect on commuters, with almost 97 per cent of affected services running on schedule.
