BUBBLE FLASH MOB

For the third year in a row Hutt City Libraries is hosting a Bubble Flash Mob. Bubbles are provided; all they need is you. If you have your own special bubble mix, bring it along, as well as a picnic lunch. Today, 10.30am on the Anzac Lawn in front of the War Memorial Library, Queens Drive, Lower Hutt. Free.

TRY AIKIDO

Based on a traditiona­l Japanese martial art, aikido focuses on developmen­t of the mind, body and spirit. This month you can try a free lesson for adult beginners. For a taster, come along today, 6.30pm to 7.30pm at Belmont Memorial Hall, Lower Hutt.

Explore the Zealandia sanctuary in Karori by torchlight as your guide leads you in search of the more distinctiv­e sights and sounds of our native forest. Nightly from 8.15pm to 10.45pm. Tickets $40 children and $85 adults.

Come along for Wellington’s longest-running open mic night – it could be your gateway to performing at the Fringe Bar. Be a part of this supportive and creative community of musicians, poets and performers every Tuesday, from 7pm at the Fringe Bar. Free entry.

SCULPTING SCARS

It takes a small amount of silicone gel, some creative flair and plenty of sticky silliness to recreate a

convincing wound. Join the Weta Workshop crew to learn how it’s done. You’ll be covered in special effects make-up and scaring your friends in no time. Today, 3pm at The Weta Cave, 1 Weka St. Tickets from $22 for children.

SUMMER SCRIBES

Following the Winter Writers series, Summer Scribes is a series of writing workshops for teens designed to help develop your individual voice. Come to the Karori Library every Tuesday during January to make those words fly off the page. Registrati­ons not required. Ages 12+. Free.
