More electric vehicle chargers

Just over 15 electric vehicle chargers are about to appear on Wellington’s suburban streets, but some concerns remain about consultation on the project.

Wellington City Council’s city strategy committee decided on Thursday to introduce 16 new electric vehicle charging stations as a pilot trial across 10 city suburbs, with four in Newtown.

The vote was not unanimous, however, with councillor Diane Calvert dissenting. Echoing a public submission, Calvert said there had not been enough engagement.

‘‘So many times around this table we’ve said, ‘We’ll do better next time’, and I’m over it. If nothing else, this is a protest vote from me.’’

Concerns about the location of a charger on Mersey St resulted in its removal from the list of proposed sites.
